We are inspired by all of our patients but we distinctly remember the impact Izaac had on all of us at Linked to Craig. Izaac was at a party looking down at his phone when he was caught in a violent crossfire - literally! A drive-by shooter fired a bullet into the building next door and the stray bullet hit Izaac in his neck.
Izaac was an elite athlete and did not have a high-risk lifestyle in any way. This catastrophic and completely unexpected injury left him paralyzed from the neck down and unable to breathe completely on his own. His parents were his primary caregivers during recovery. The difficulty of recovery and reentry cannot be overstated. Izaac's physical and emotional well being was everyone's highest priority but once the physical realities settled in, the financial realities of the injury of this magnitude could not be ignored.
Dental treatment is often and understandably low on the list of priorities but in Izaac's case, given his breathing difficulties, a dental infection could become extremely serious and even life-threatening.
Linked to Craig had the extraordinary privilege of working with Izaac to make sure that his dental condition did not complicate his recovery. We were inspired by Izaac and his family, and his experience has given and continues to give hope to many other Linked to Craig patients.
